Breathe (More Information)

Use gentle breaths for the best effect

  • Remove the MONQ Personal Diffuser from its white protective case.
  • Press your lips to the end with the tiny circular opening.
  • Breathe in through your mouth, and out through your nose. There is no need to inhale.
  • Each MONQ lasts anywhere from 200-250 breaths, depending on the user.
  • 2 to 3 gentle breaths, 2 to 3 times a day should last 3 to 4 weeks.
  • Use gentle breaths, and without inhaling into the lungs, to get the best effect from MONQ.

The purpose of MONQ is not to fill your lungs with aromatic vapor. Rather, it is to have an enjoyable aromatherapy experience with high quality blends. When we say that MONQ releases Therapeutic Air, we refer to Merriam-Webster’s first definition of Therapeutic: “producing good effects on your body or mind.”

Exhaling through the nose is the first step to the most therapeutic possible effect. When you do this the aromatherapy molecules go past the olfactory nerve endings in the upper nasal passageway.

While the effect from the olfactory nerves frequently starts immediately, it usually does not peak for at least a few minutes. Therefore we recommend that you not breathe MONQ continuously, but rather take a gentle breath or two and then put it down for a while. In fact we encourage a very gentle breath initially to see how strong the effect is on you.

MONQ’s flavors are robust, so most users end up taking fewer, softer breaths than they might have initially anticipated (about 2-3 breaths every few hours). In most aromatherapy, only one or two plants are used at a time. MONQ uses more complex mixtures, leading to a synergistic or “entourage effect.” This allows for aromatherapy benefits to come from a relatively dilute base of essential oils.

When used gently, most MONQ users find that a MONQ will last them at least 3 weeks. Everybody breathes differently, and most people get around 200 or more gentle breaths from each device.

Particularly sensitive users may soften each breath by inserting their fingertip as a spacer between their mouth and the device. Not surprisingly, these users find MONQ to last far longer.

Obviously, the more intensely you use MONQ the sooner it will wear out. It is indeed physically possible to use up your device in a single day, with far fewer than 100 strong breaths, but this is decidedly not our recommendation.
